We drive new acoustic solutions through research and technology

At PROSAC, we are at the forefront of reducing acoustic impact in the marine environment. Through our Research and Development (R&D) team, we work on innovative solutions to mitigate underwater noise generated by outboard vessels. A key area of our focus is the design and validation of propellers for outboard motors, aimed at reducing cavitation noise—caused by the formation and collapse of vapor bubbles around the propellers. This phenomenon has a significant impact on the marine ecosystem, affecting the behavior and communication of marine fauna over considerable distances.

This innovation project, launched in August 2023, seeks to modify and optimize propellers to achieve significant noise attenuation without compromising the operational efficiency of the vessels. Developed in collaboration with IA Consultores, ASMAR Magallanes, and Australis Seafoods, and co-financed by CORFO in 2024, our main goal is to reduce acoustic impact in aquaculture centers and promote sustainability in the aquaculture industry.

The results obtained so far have been promising, with a reduction in affected areas within aquaculture centers ranging from 75% to 79%. This progress reflects our commitment to developing effective measures to protect marine fauna while encouraging the adoption of more responsible technologies in aquaculture and other maritime activities.
