Acoustic barriers allow for the attenuation of noise emitted from a sound source by interrupting sound propagation, while also absorbing sound reflections through their internal sound-absorbing lining. For environmental protection purposes, they are generally installed outdoors, but there are also formats designed for indoor use in industrial plants to protect workers’ health.

For outdoor installations, acoustic panels may be made of steel or composite panels with surface treatments to extend service life. One face is lined with sound-absorbing material such as fiberglass, mineral wool, or polyester fiber, with a finish of expanded metal mesh or perforated steel plate, depending on the project’s requirements. Foundations and support structures vary depending on height and terrain. Typically, a concrete base and metal support structure are used.
